If you’ve been to our great capital recently, then you will have no doubt seen first hand the burger invasion that’s taken control of virtually every street in the Big Smoke. If you haven’t been, then you’re just going to have to trust us – you can’t move for burger restaurants. With that in mind, there’s a frustratingly small percentage of these restaurants/pop-ups/cafes that actually offer a gluten-free burger. Why so frustrating? Because it’s so bloomin’ simple! Swap the regular bun for a GF bun and voila…you’ve got yourself a gluten free option. Whilst there’s still quite a bit of work to be done for many of these establishments (you know who you are), there are some out there who’ve gone above and beyond to keep us Coeliacs happy. Please give a big round of applause for the three best coeliac-friendly burgers in London…

Dirty Burger

There was a time when the word ‘dirty’ would’ve been a big no-no when naming your new restaurant – but times have changed, and with burgers as good as this who cares! We opted for the Double Dirty Bacon Burger as we were feeling particularly peckish, and boy did we feel dirty afterwards (in a good way…we think). The beef was tasty, the gluten free bun was great and the special mayo, whatever that was, was fantastic. Oh we almost forgot, they also served crinkle cut fries which obviously makes EVERYTHING better. Perhaps we ought to start a range of dirty pies?

Honest Burger

Declared by a close friend of ours to be the greatest burger she’s ever devoured. There are a number of different burgers on the menu, all of which have the option of a gluten free bun, and all of which sound equally mouth watering. Naturally we went for the namesake, the Honest Burger – an incredible combo of beef, red onion relish, smoked bacon, mature cheddar, pickled cucumber and lettuce, served with a side of rosemary salted fries. Now, we’re not sure whose idea it was to throw rosemary into the mix but we’re forever grateful – you’ve changed the chip game forever. The gluten free bun was as amazing as we’d heard. Perfectly formed, non-crumbly and full of flavour…Bravo!

Those of you living in London on a gluten-free diet, whether it’s by choice or necessity, will be aware of the existence of Niche. Niche is London’s first Coeliac UK accredited 100% gluten free restaurant, and if you’re yet to visit the place then it’s time to do something about it. We’ve been a few times and the novelty of seeing a restaurant menu that consists only of amazing sounding gluten free dishes has not worn off. We could go on all day about this place, but today we’re here for the burgers. We opted for the classic beef burger, made with aged rib and brisket, in a gluten free sesame seed bun, armed with all the toppings you’d expect from a restaurant quality burger. The meal was incredible, and the fact that there was zero-chance of a bun mix up made the whole experience much more relaxing. We’ll be back!
